Arctic Biodiversity Congress 2018 Preliminary Program

Plenary program subject to change. Rooms have yet to be assigned.

Six main themes guide the flow and organization of the Congress. These overarching themes will run concurrently throughout the Congress and will form the backbone for the Congress. These themes were identified in the Arctic Biodiversity Assessment recommendations for policy

Financial support

Congress organizers are working to secure funding for travel support for a limited number of speakers, program contributors, Indigenous representatives and students. Full and partial support is being considered on a case-by-case basis.

Registration fees from paying participants will also be used for travel support.

Support Categories

Everyone seeking travel support must complete the form below and indicate the level of support required (e.g. hotel, hotel plus flight). They must include a cost estimate covering the expenses that the funds will be used to cover.

Travel support will cover accommodation as needed for appropriate participation, but will not likely to extend beyond October 8-12.

Travel support will not:

    • exceed the cost of flight, hotel and necessary meals (economy tickets only, domestic flights may be considered depending on costs)
    • cover travel and health insurance
    • include ground transport in your country to/from the airport on your departure and return
    • cover costs incurred in the process of applying for and obtaining a visa (includes flights, accommodation, couriers or other such costs which have been incurred in the process of obtaining the visa)
    • cover any additional travel costs (e.g. excess luggage charges, meals and accommodation before or after, personal items, etc.)

In addition to receiving travel support, funded participants will have the registration fee waived.

Evaluation Criteria

People requesting support are to be asked to indicate:

  • Anticipated level of participation in the meeting
  • Previous involvement in the ABA/CAFF/Arctic Council
  • Plans for sharing the knowledge and experience gained through attending the conference
